c0mn Web Application

c0mn is a small, self-initiated web application exploring a simpler way to find, collect, and organize inspiration from around the web. Instead of creating new content, the idea is to save what already exists, and give it a place to live.

The application is built around URLs as the raw material. Add a link and c0mn identifies its source and media type, while tags and notes provide additional context. Everything comes together in a visual archive that can be searched and filtered, allowing relationships to emerge between things collected from otherwise disconnected corners of the web.

The interface was intentionally kept sparse. Rather than reproducing the feeds, recommendations, advertising, and social mechanics of larger inspiration platforms, c0mn focuses on the collection itself. The result sits somewhere between a commonplace book, a visual bookmark manager, and a personal archive.

c0mn was also an experiment in learning Ruby on Rails by building and operating a complete application. It uses Rails with SQLite and vanilla CSS, and is deployed with Docker and Kamal to a small cloud server. Keeping the stack intentionally simple made the project as much an exploration of software development as interface design.

The project continues to evolve around one simple premise: encounter something meaningful, then save it.
